The former Department of Natural Product Biotechnology, being reorganized into the Department of Molecular Signal Processing at the Leibniz-Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB), invites applications for the positions of

Research Group Leaders (3) and Post-doctoral Research Scientists (3)

in the integrated program areas of Nutrient Sensing, Secondary Metabolism and Hormone Action. The focus of the new department (http://www.ipb-halle.de/en/) is to understand at the molecular level how plant systems monitor and respond to the environment by adjusting metabolism and growth. Directions of research will include mineral sensing (P, Fe, N), regulation of defense metabolism (glucosinolates), and hormone biology (auxin, jasmonates), with particular emphasis on plant-rhizosphere interactions using plant model systems.

The candidates for group leader positions are expected to develop independent and original research on an internationally competitive level. Successful applicants will have a command of modern experimental and bioinformatics-related skills as well as a strong track record of quality publications that reflect creativity and high impact. Excellent writing and communication skills for securing extramural funds and disseminating research are a prerequisite. For each position, funds are available for a postdoctoral scientist, a PhD student and a technician, together with funds for consumables and equipment. The appointment will be initially for 3 years. Compen- sation will be according to TV-L and experience. Fluency in English is required.

Post-doctoral candidates should hold a PhD degree in a discipline of the molecular life sciences with relevant research experience. Consideration will be given to appli- cants with thorough training in one of the following areas: Arabidopsis genetics, plant metabolism, cell and developmental biology, protein biochemistry. Applicants should be highly motivated and possess excellent analytical and communication skills. The appointment will be for 3 years and compensated according to TV-L.

The IPB, located on the weinberg-campus of the Martin-Luther-University Halle- Wittenberg, is an international research institute with about 200 employees and provides state of the art facilities for research in natural products chemistry/ metabolomics, plant biochemistry/proteomics, and cell biology/imaging.

Applications from qualified scientists of any nationality are welcomed and should include a short description of research accomplishments and future plans, curriculum vitae, publication list, and contact information for three referees. Applications should be sent by to: Steffen Abel, Leibniz-Institute of Plant Biochemistry, Weinberg 3, D- 06120 Halle (Saale), Germany or via email to: sabel@ipb-halle.de.
